A railroad along the Hönne? Then the stagecoach would be passé, and driving through the narrow gorge would be more of a pleasure. And the whole world would be able to explore the Klusenstein, the "Seven Virgins" or even the huge maw of the Balver Cave comfortably from the train. But also the inexhaustible lime deposits of my homeland could be developed and quickly transported away. We would then get to the Ruhr much faster!

    On the territory of the town of Hemer, on the edge of the Hönnetal, Klusenstein Castle is located on a 60 meter high cliff. It was built in 1353 and was a border fortification of the county to the neighbouring territory of Kurköln and the county of Arnsberg

Ruhr-Sieg Railroad

11 tunnels, 24 bridges, 106 kilometres packed with curves: the construction of the Ruhr-Sieg Railway is a massive undertaking! Around Altena station, even the Lenne riverbed has to make way for the new track. All in all, the twisting course of the line severely limits the speed of the trains and exposes the rails to increased wear and tear. In addition, the tunnels require constant maintenance. The biggest hurdle is overcoming the watershed of the Sieg and Lenne rivers between Altenhundem and Kreuztal. The main line of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn - the "connection to the big wide world" - is located in the Lenne valley. Unfortunately, the people of Freudenberg, Olpe and Attendorn are left behind. But the idea of running a line from Finnentrop through the picturesque valley of the Bigge sounds promising. And once recreation-seekers set off for the Sauerland region, they will be able to enjoy it to the full, both at the bottom of the valley and on the bridges of the future.
