The main line of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn - the "connection to the big wide world" - is located in the Lenne valley. Unfortunately, the people of Freudenberg, Olpe and Attendorn are left behind. But the idea of running a line from Finnentrop through the picturesque valley of the Bigge sounds promising. And when recreation-seekers once set off for the Sauerland, they will be able to enjoy it to the "fullest," at the valley floor as well as on the bridges of the future.

The Biggetalbahn yesterday and today

  • Attendorn train station [around 1890]

  • A VT 98 unit (rail bus) on the old route of the Biggetalbahn near Sondern. This part of the line sank in 1964 in the newly built Biggestausee. The bridge in the background belongs to the new line that went into service on May 31, 1964. [3.8.1962]
